Apology & Regret Statements | The resolution goes through the history of slave trade and Slavery in Virginia. It acknowledges generally apologies made by European and African countries. Its apology seems to be in conjunction to the 400th anniversary of the first English colony. It also discussed the importance of African American contributions and their recognition. The statement is not an apology, but rather a statement of atonement. As it says, “the general assembly hereby atone for the involuntary servitude of Africans and call for reconciliation among all Virginians; and, be it.” |
