Denmark Minister of Foreign Affairs Anders Samuelsen

6th July 2023 by

Statement TypeApology
Date of Statement23/11/2017
Issuing BodyWestern Government/City/Municipal Authority
Apology & Regret StatementsPrime Minister Lars Lokke Ramussen previously expressed similar sentiments, but neglected to apologize earlier in the year. He is quoted in saying, “”I say that the slave trade was unforgivable. When something is unforgivable, you cannot ever expect forgiveness. It means you can apologize as many times as you want, without any avail.”
“We share a dark history of slave trade – shameful and unforgivable part of Danish history. Nothing can justify the exploitation of men, women and children in which Denmark took part.” From the quote, it seems like this could be considered a statement of acknowledgement, but a full transcript of the speech should bring more depth.
