The African Foundation for Development (AFFORD) welcomes the opportunity to comment on the UK government’s forthcoming Globalisation and Development White Paper. As an organisation that exists with a mission to expand and enhance the contribution that Africans in the diaspora make to Africa’s development, we draw attention to the important relationship that has always existed between globalisation and movement of people. International migration – and recent flows of people in particular – has given rise to the formation of socalled transnational communities around the world, not least the UK. These transnational communities maintain active links between ”host” and “home” countries and are dynamic - though under-recognised and under-valued players - in the development of their regions of origin.
